The final episode of M*A*S*H aired on February 28, 1983 and was one of the most watched television programs of all time. It's estimated that 77% of the people watching television that night were tuned in to M*A*S*H. Now you can see how it all began back on September 17, 1972
Although M*A*S*H often had viewers laughing hysterically, sixty percent of the show's storylines came directly from research, either from articles in old issues of TIME magazine or from interviews with real MASH doctors who served in Korea. Medical advisers were used on the set. Series creator Larry Gelbart and producer Gene Reynolds actually went to Korea in 1974.
Through the laughter and tears, the show touched on the real themes and tragedies of war.
